The long game.
Jonathan Siegrist grew up around climbing, with a father who climbed 5.13, but did not start seriously until he was eighteen. Climbing magazine gave him a Golden Piton in 2009, and in June 2014 he redpointed Realization/Biographie at Céüse, his first 9a+.
Over the next few years he finished the 9a+ trilogy with La Rambla and Papichulo, climbed three 9a+ routes on a single trip to Oliana in 2017, and made the second repeat of Chris Sharma’s Jumbo Love, a 9b, in 2018. Since 2019 he has opened routes of his own: All You Can Eat, Nu World, Full Metal Brisket and, in 2022, the 9b Event Horizon at the 5G Wall near Las Vegas.
He has repeated some of the hardest traditional routes in the world as well, among them The Path at Lake Louise and the first repeat of Direct Dunn-Westbay on the Diamond, belayed by his father.
His Rhino product is Hydrate. Dry, windy days and winter used to leave him with crease splits that lasted most of a season. He says Hydrate has almost cleared them, and that he now treats it as gear. Jonathan is a member of the Rhino Pro Team.
