Baseball and softball · Skin is gear

Blisters from the bat. Sweat on the ball. Calluses that tear in July.

Batting practice rubs the same spots on the palms and fingers until they blister. Pitchers fight sweaty hands on a hot day. The throwing arm and shoulder carry a whole season. Here is the ballplayer's kit, from BP to the ice bag.

Skin is gear
Why ballplayers blister

Hundreds of swings on the same spot.

A batting practice session is a few hundred swings with the knob and handle rubbing the same strip of palm. Calluses build, get tall, and tear. Pitchers have a different problem: a sweaty throwing hand on a humid day. And the arm and shoulder carry everything, game after game.

Dry hands the night before. Tape the known blister spots before BP. File calluses flat so they don't catch. Massage Cream on the arm and shoulder after. Check your league rules before using anything on your hands during play. Rhino was built for climbers' hands. A bat handle wears skin the same way.
