Skin is gear
The callus you built is the one that tears.
A callus is the body's answer to the bar. It protects you until it gets tall. Then the kip pulls the bar across the top of it, the callus folds, and the edge tears away from the healthy skin underneath. Sweat makes it worse: wet skin is soft skin, and the bar drags instead of sliding.
Two habits fix most rips. File calluses flat so there is no edge to roll, and keep the palms dry so the bar slides. The third habit is closing a rip fast enough that you are back on the bar in two days instead of two weeks. Rhino was built for climbers' hands. A pull-up bar is just a very round hold.
