Skin is gear
The callus is the rip waiting to happen.
Every swing on the bar pulls the skin of the palm the same direction. A callus forms to take it, grows tall, and eventually folds under the grip and tears away from the skin underneath. Sweat speeds it up: wet skin under a leather grip softens and shears. Rips come at the end of a long rotation, when the hands are wet and the callus is at its tallest.
Gymnasts already know the ritual: tape, chalk, finish, deal with it later. The part that changes the season is later. File calluses flat every few days so there is no edge to fold. Keep the hands dry under the grips. Close a rip the same night so it is skin again by Thursday, not a scab that tears again. Rhino built this for climbers' hands. Gymnasts beat theirs up harder.
